Wyndham City Council has released a Smart City Progress report, reflecting on the region’s achievements since adopting its Smart City Strategy in 2019.

In the past three years, Council has implemented a range of smart technologies and projects, successfully helping drive the city towards a smarter future.

The Smart City Strategy followed a multi-pronged approach that included surveys, direct consultation, best practice review, expert advice and integration with corporate strategies, and plans across multiple disciplines.

Key examples of some of the initiatives include the development of one of Australia’s leading smart parking systems, solar power roll outs, smart waste disposal, smart barbecues, public WiFi, and smart charging stations. Electric vehicle infrastructure was also installed with eight public chargers.

The installation of energy-saving LED lights in city streetlights is also set to support a forecasted $13 million saving over 20 years and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Other smart spaces that were improved through the strategy were Wyndham Park.

The park received a $13 million redevelopment plan which completed work in June of 2020, and now includes public wifi, smart bins and barbeques, as well as other sensor technologies.

An enterprise geospatial platform project was also completed in 2021 with a significant upgrade and extension to ageing geospatial systems. These upgrades will continue to facilitate the creation of new analytical tools to better interpret, communicate and share smart city data;, driving business improvement & efficiency.

Additionally, the new system provides 3D capability, presentation of live data and new possibilities to view, edit and analyse data in the field.
