Our communities, and the way we live, interact and move about in them, are changing.
The Council online hub has been developed to keep you up-to-date with all of the latest news, discussions, innovation and projects in the local government sector. Our vision is that this hub will arm community decision-makers with the critical information they need to deliver a better future for cities, towns and suburbs all over Australia.
Our role in the industry
Council has a strong focus on providing the industry with genuinely useful tools and information that can help you make better, more informed decisions in your daily working life.
We look at the wide range of issues and projects up for consideration in the local government space, and keep our readers informed of the critical industry news, updates and changes that they need to be aware of.
Council is an essential sector, and we are passionate about helping place-makers achieve the best community experiences and wellbeing that will make our cities, towns and suburbs the best places they can be.
Council Editor – Laura Harvey
Council is edited by Laura Harvey, a fifteen-year veteran of trade publishing in the government and infrastructure sectors. Laura is passionate about the role local government has to play in creating the communities we need in our changing world.
Laura has tried her hand at most things when it comes to media production – journalism, content creation, design and production, broadcasting, video production – but without a doubt, her favourite thing to do is edit. Laura thrives on the challenge of bringing together breaking news, the latest views and industry-leading opinion to create highly regarded magazines, websites and events.
During her time in the publishing sector, Laura has seen significant changes to the way the sector operates over that time. What has remained constant throughout her career, whether she’s working on a magazine, a blog post, a video or an event, is her focus on connecting audiences with quality, engaging and thought-provoking content.

Council – published by Monkey Media
Council is published by Monkey Media, one of Australia’s leading trade publishers in the energy and infrastructure sectors. In addition to Council, Monkey Media also publishes Utility, Infrastructure, Energy and Pump Industry. Monkey Media is also the organiser of highly regarded industry events including Smart Cities, Digital Utilities and the Critical Infrastructure Summit.
While the way the world communicates has changed rapidly over the last 20 years, the need for tailored, quality industry information has not. At the core of Monkey Media is a team of editors, journalists and designers with in-depth knowledge of the industries we work in, and an ability to put that expertise to work to create high-quality, engaging and thought-provoking content. Monkey Media’s growth over the past few years has bucked the trend of most media companies, and in 2018 we were listed in the Australian Financial Review’s Fast 100.
