The Queensland Government has confirmed funding for a new Police-Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) at Pimpama, with detailed design work now progressing ahead of construction.
The $30 million facility will be jointly funded by the Queensland Government and the City of Gold Coast, with each contributing $15 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
The new PCYC will be built on Pimpama Jacobs Well Road and will provide programs and services focused on youth development, sport, recreation, crime prevention and community engagement.
The facility will include a gym and fitness facilities, an outdoor half basketball court, a kitchenette, two multipurpose spaces and recreational areas. A dedicated gymnastics hall will also support PCYC’s Playtime and Little n Active programs for pre-school children.
Queensland Premier, David Crisafulli, said the project would deliver important community infrastructure for the northern Gold Coast.
“This is a critical investment in the health, safety and wellbeing of young Queenslanders.
“PCYCs offer so much to families and the wider community, whether it’s getting young kids into sport, promoting leadership or encouraging them to strive for a brighter future,” Crisafulli said.
Member for Coomera, Michael Crandon, said the facility had been sought by the local community for many years.
“Our community has been calling for this new PCYC facility for more than a decade, so it’s great that the Queensland Government can work with the City of Gold Coast to make the Pimpama PCYC a reality,” Crandon said.
City of Gold Coast Acting Mayor, Mark Hammel, said the project would support one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions, while PCYC Queensland CEO, Phil Schultz, said the new facility would enable the organisation to deliver vital youth programs alongside modern sport and recreation facilities.
