Local government professionals are on the frontline of Australia’s transition to a circular economy. From waste management and procurement to infrastructure planning and community engagement, councils play a vital role in shaping a more sustainable future for our communities.

Australia’s leading circular economy event, ReGen, is offering a crucial opportunity for people working in Councils to gain the knowledge and connections needed to accelerate this transition. Their free two-day speaker program, scheduled for July 23-24, 2025, at the ICC Sydney, is specifically designed to equip attendees with practical insights and solutions to drive circular economy action at the local level.

With an ambitious national goal to double Australia’s circularity by 2035, this program, in collaboration with Planet Ark, WCRA, and ReGen’s Advisory Board, directly addresses the resource, reuse, and recycle challenges facing our nation – challenges that directly impact council operations.

The program boasts over 50 speakers from government, industry, research, and community sectors, offering a comprehensive overview of key circular economy principles and their practical. Sessions will explore circular product design, highlighting how mindful design can reduce waste and create opportunities for repair, reuse, and remanufacturing, directly impacting council procurement and infrastructure projects.

Attendees will also learn about sustainable packaging innovations and the evolving policy landscape. Furthermore, the program will delve into circular procurement, providing strategies for embedding sustainability into council purchasing to drive demand for eco-friendly goods and services. For infrastructure development, circular construction methods that minimise waste and maximise resource efficiency will be showcased. Recognising the growing challenge of textile waste, dedicated sessions will explore relevant management strategies. Understanding the policy frameworks at both national and state levels is crucial, and the program will offer valuable insights to inform council planning and advocacy efforts in the circular economy space.

ReGen Event Director, Ali Lawes, emphasises the action-oriented nature of the program: “We set out to curate a program that goes beyond a ‘talk fest’—one that delivers tangible solutions, sparks real-world impact, and helps drive Australia’s transition to a circular economy. ReGen 2025 is about action, alignment, and accelerating progress together.”

The Innovation Pitch Fest, sponsored by Coles, will showcase cutting-edge circularity solutions from Australian startups and scale-ups, offering potential partnerships and innovative approaches that local councils can explore.

For professionals dedicated to building a more sustainable future within their local communities, attending the ReGen Expo is invaluable. It’s a chance to connect with leading experts, learn about best practices, and gain the practical knowledge needed to implement effective circular economy initiatives within your council.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the movement driving Australia’s circular economy transition. Sessions are free for all registered ReGen visitors, with full program details available on the ReGen website.
