The Victorian Government is paving the way to more than 18,000 new homes across the state, with approval granted on a new residential precinct in the state’s west and consultation opening on three further precincts.

Victorian Minister for Planning, Sonya Kilkenny, has approved the Officer South Precinct Structure Plan (PSP). The State Government said Officer South will become a major hub for business growth and investment, supporting 22,000 new jobs and 1,600 homes as the heart of the Officer-Pakenham State Significant Industrial Precinct. The precinct is expected to help drive new industries, manufacturing, and logistics, while also providing housing options for these workers.

In addition to Officer South, the Victorian Government has invited communities to have their say on precinct plans for new suburbs in Melton East, Devon Meadows, and Casey Fields South.

The proposed precincts of Casey Fields South, Devon Meadows, and Melton East will collectively deliver 16,500 new homes and 7,370 jobs.

Beyond housing and jobs, the proposed plans identify locations for new schools, sporting facilities and community hubs, ensuring that future residents have access to essential services and amenities they need.

The plans also include requirements for more trees and green spaces, including setting targets on canopy trees on local streets and minimum standards for open spaces.

The areas are part of the Victorian Government’s ten-year greenfields plan, which aims to deliver 180,000 new homes over the next decade – the state’s longest-ever pipeline of new land for homes and backyards.

The Victorian Government said the pipeline of available land gives developers the confidence to invest early and get shovels in the ground sooner to deliver more homes for big, growing families.

Victorians are encouraged to share their views on the Devon Meadows and Casey Fields South PSP and Melton East PSP, with consultation open until 31 March 2025.

Ms Kilkenny said, “We’ve given the green light for more homes and jobs in Officer South, and we want Victorians to have their say on our plan to deliver thousands more homes in our growth areas.

“Whether it’s a townhouse in the inner suburbs or a home with a backyard in the suburbs – we’re delivering real housing choice for Victorians.”

Victorian Minister for Economic Growth, Danny Pearson, said, “This is a major win for Officer South – building more homes and creating thousands of jobs for hardworking families will drive economic growth in the area.”
