A $500,000 investment from the Federal Government is set to transform a former landfill site in Sunshine into new educational, commercial and cultural facilities for the community.
The funding, under the government’s urban Precincts and Partnership Program, is part of an $8.8 million investment in projects across Victoria to revitalise urban spaces to meet the needs of growing communities.
The funding for a feasibility study and business case will support planning for the new 74ha ‘central park’ to be located within the Sunshine Priority Precinct and the Albion Quarter urban renewal area.
The park is part of the broader Sunshine Station Precinct Activation.
Brimbank City Council has established a coalition of partners, including neighbouring residents, stakeholders, advisors, government departments and agencies, elected government officials and the Brimbank Youth Council.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King, said that the government’s urban Precincts and Partnerships Program is about reusing and reimagining urban space.
“This funding is the first critical step in transforming this site to better serve the people who live here,” Minister King said.
Member for Fraser, Daniel Mulino, said that the Federal Government’s commitment of $500,000 towards Energy Park is a big step towards the development of this important space.
“The development of Energy Park will provide the community with a substantial increase in public spaces and recreational facilities. Ultimately it could also be a site for grid scale clean energy.”
