The Western Australian Government is trailing an updated Transperth app for passengers which has several new features, including real-time bus tracking.
The updated Transperth app is set to be released to the general public in 2019 and will enable users to track the approach of their bus or ferry service in real time.
It will also allow passengers to manage their SmartRider account, travel alerts, SmartParker and bike shelter access, as well as making it easier to save their favourite journeys on the Transperth network.
WA Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti, said the Transperth app has been in development for a while and Transperth is determined to get it right and make this as useable as possible.
“Adopting technology like this makes it even more attractive for passengers to adopt public transport,” Ms Saffioti said.
“We are also working on upgrading Transperth’s SmartRider system to cater for future patronage growth expected as part of METRONET and are currently trialling free Wi-Fi on some services.”
Transperth is hoping about 5,000 users will visit the Transperth website to sign up to be part of the beta testing group that will provide feedback on the effectiveness of the updated app.
The feedback from users will be used to ensure the app’s interface is easy to use and any technical issues are identified before it is rolled out to the wider community next year.
The new app will also enable passengers to check their SmartRider transaction history, manage subscriptions, report damage to bus stops and register to use bike shelters on the Transperth network.
