The Queensland Government has approved a Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI) for the City of Moreton Bay, helping to safeguard critical future enterprise and employment land over part of the Narangba East Rural Residential Investigation Area.

The TLPI will be in place for the next 12 months, effective from 18 June 2025 to 18 June 2026, and covers approximately 445 hectares of the investigation area, situated on the western side of the Bruce Highway.

City of Moreton Bay Mayor, Peter Flannery, said that this was a win for Narangba East property owners and the entire city more broadly.

“The Narangba East Rural Residential Investigation Area has been identified as key industrial land that can support up to 10,500 future jobs for our city’s growing population,” Mayor Flannery said.

“Access to the Bruce Highway; its central location to the rest of our city, and its proximity to the Port of Brisbane and Brisbane Airport, make it the ideal location for industrial land uses.

“Thanks to State Government approval, we now have breathing space to complete important strategic planning for the investigation area that will deliver local jobs for our residents.

“Importantly, it puts a halt to development applications which are out of step with the intended planning uses for this area and prevents further fragmentation of the community.

Mayor Flannery said that property owners can still carry out improvements to their properties under the current zoning rules, such as adding an extension or a shed to their property.

“However, the TLPI does not support premature urban development such as residential subdivisions.

“This gives property owners certainty in the short-term while we get to work on a long-term plan for the site.

“We will continue to engage with the community and stakeholders to form a long-term plan for this area so we can provide the community with certainty as soon as possible.”

The Narangba East Proposed Future Enterprise & Employment Area TLPI is effective from today and will expire on 18 June 2026. For more information, visit the City of Moreton Bay website. To stay up to date with future community consultation visit the Your Say Moreton Bay webpage.
