The City of Greater Geelong has won the Collaboration or Partnership Achievement of the Year Award at the 2020 Municipal Association Victoria (MAV) Technology Awards for Excellence.

Judges declared the Smart City project Geelong Data Exchange an exemplary model which should be replicated across local government.

The platform makes data user-friendly for the community and provides businesses, entrepreneurs, innovators, students, researchers and academics with access to quality data to test new ideas, research problems and find solutions.

The innovative data project also allows the City of Greater Geelong to make evidence-based decisions and deliver better-informed policies and was also nominated for an Australian Internet of Things (IoT) Award in the Smart City category.

The MAV Technology Awards for Excellence recognise outstanding team and individual efforts in the use of technology to improve service delivery and efficiency to local government organisations or communities.

Other winners at this years’ awards include:

  • Customer Experience Achievement of the Year – Frankston City Council for “Digital Ways of Working”
  • Strategy and Planning Achievement of the Year – Alpine Shire Council for “Project Pinnacle”
  • Victorian Achievement of the Year – Alpine Shire Council for “Project Pinnacle”
  • Australian Achievement of the Year – Joint Winners: Queensland- – Sunshine Coast Council for “Sunshine Coast International Broadband Network (SCIBN)” and Victoria – Alpine Shire Council “Project Pinnacle”

“Technology improves service delivery by speeding up communications and increasing convenience, enabling councils to function more efficiently and effectively,” Ms Ross said.

“All finalists demonstrated that they had made advancements in technology that would provide better outcomes for councils and their communities.

“We congratulate all our finalists and winners for their efforts and achievements and look forward to the further digitisation of the sector.”
