The City of Ryde has been awarded with the 2022 Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management (AITPM) Excellence Award for its Integrated Transport Strategy 2041.

AITPM is the peak body for traffic planning and management; its Excellence Award recognises and promotes excellence in policy making, industry practice and practitioners in the transport industry.

Award winners must demonstrate practices to drive improvements in the industry that ultimately benefit the wider community, with a focus on practice that contributes to a ‘sustainable, efficient, safe, multimodal transport system, that is accessible by all communities’.

City of Ryde’s Integrated Transport Strategy 2041 focuses not only on what local government can do directly to deliver good outcomes, but also advocates for a better transport system in terms of infrastructure and services.

The strategy identifies 58 transport projects to prioritise, with a combination of active and public transport and road projects.

City of Ryde Mayor, Cr Jordan Lane, said the strategy outlines practical ways to improve the local transport system.

“Our transport system is vital, and we need to focus on more efficient ways of moving people in the face of many challenges,” Mayor Lane said.

“This strategy sets us on the path to meet these challenges and I look forward to working with key stakeholders and our community to deliver a safe, sustainable and convenient transport system in our City.

“The benefits of coordinated transport planning are clear, and Council’s Integrated Transport Strategy sets out practical ways to achieve this.”
