Three critical infrastructure projects are set to be fast-tracked under the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund (RAF), unlocking 3,600 new homes.
The Queensland Government has announced funding under the Residential Activation Fund will deliver a $17.26 million boost towards the $23 million Parkhurst Residential Enabling Infrastructure Project and a $9.75 million boost towards the $13 million North Rockhampton Sewage Treatment Plant UV Disinfection Facility.
The Residential Activation Fund will also support important planning work including detailed design for the Limestone Creek Trunk Sewerage Network (Stage 1), allowing it to become a construction ready project.
The $2 billion Residential Activation Fund has received 178 submissions – 64 from South East Queensland and 114 from regional, rural and remote Queensland.
The State Government’s 2025/26 Budget is delivering up to $1 billion for round one of the Residential Activation Fund, doubled from the original $500 million, in response to the overwhelming support and availability of shovel-ready projects.
Round one funding focuses on the construction of critical truck infrastructure needed such as water supply, sewerage, stormwater, and roads needed to unlock new residential developments.
Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the Residential Activation Fund was set to unlock thousands of new homes across Queensland.
“The State Government is delivering on our election commitment to give more Queenslanders a place to call home by funding shovel-ready projects like the brand new 1.8km extension of Alexandra Street in Parkhurst, unlocking existing housing approvals in Western Parkhurst,” Bleijie said.
“This project will transform the housing landscape in Central Queensland and give more Queenslanders a place to call home.
“Partnering with the Rockhampton Regional Council to unlock this critical infrastructure will deliver more local homes.”
Rockhampton Mayor, Tony Williams, thanked the Queensland Government for this housing partnership, saying that it will help address housing shortages impacting the local community.
“Whether that’s people who are struggling to find homes at an affordable rate or businesses who are struggling to attract staff and workers as a result of the housing pressures,” Mayor Williams said.
“This is having a real impact in people’s lives and in our community.
“That’s why in March we developed our Housing Infrastructure Priority List – to be on the front foot and drive initiatives that will have a tangible impact.
“I’m really pleased to have received funding for all three projects we applied for under the Residential Activation Fund and to be working with the Deputy Premier, our local MPs and the State Government to get new homes delivered across our region.”
