The Property Council of Australia’s NSW Division has elected a new President, who will deepen the Council’s focus on liveability, sustainability and diversity.
Carl Schibrowski, Head of Development for Brookfield Properties, has been elected the new NSW President for 2019-20.
Mr Schibrowski holds more than 23 years’ experience across the property industry in commercial, mixed use and major developments and has held senior roles at Charter Hall, Macquarie and LendLease and has worked internationally in Spain and the United States.
He has been an active participant in the Property Council since 2009 and has most recently been the NSW Division’s Vice President and a member of the National Cities Roundtable.
Mr Schibrowski said today that it is an important time for the Property Council to continue to perform a leadership role in the design and growth of our state.
“With a State election just around the corner and an increased focus on how Sydney and our state is growing, there has never been a more important time for the Property Council to be a thought leader in creating places that are liveable, sustainable and create economic opportunity,” Mr Schibrowski said.
“I also very much want to focus on extending our diversity focus to take in the broader concept of inclusion, increase engagement between the tertiary sector and industry and deepen our work on creating collaborative places.”
Mr Schibrowski said the property industry provides 311,000 direct jobs in NSW and pays $17 billion in taxes, so strong advocacy for the industry would be critical to ensure the industry grows and contribute to the future of NSW.
“Issues such as planning and tax reform, building great cities, encouraging emerging sectors such as build to rent and seeing the opportunity in the Western City aerotropolis realised will all be key priorities for the Property Council.”
“I’m proud to take on this leadership position and help to drive outcomes that benefit the whole industry, continue to strengthen the Property Council’s position in the Illawarra and Hunter regions and cement our presence in Western Sydney.”
Mr Schibrowski replaces Stockland’s Louise Mason, who led the Division from 2016.
