Perth’s new strategy strives towards sustainable infrastructure

The City of Perth is preparing a Social Strategy to guide initiatives that aim to address the social resilience, health and wellbeing needs of its community.

Aligning with the Strategic Community Plan, Chair Commissioner, Eric Lumsden, said the City of Perth’s Social Strategy was a ten-year evidence-based strategy, supported by aspirational goals.

“Achieving social sustainability and improving the quality of life for the people of Perth needs to be a shared agenda, informed by evidence and supported by a clear, collaborative, consistent and coordinated strategy.”

It is anticipated the Social Strategy will guide future planning, decision-making, resource allocation and provision of community infrastructure across the city’s six neighbourhoods – Central Perth, Northbridge, East Perth, Crawley/Nedlands, West Perth and Claisebrook.

“The Social Strategy will inform how the City leads, partners and advocates for services and programs responding to the needs of the community,” Mr Lumsden said.

“It will aim to address a broad range of environmental, social, cultural and economic determinants of wellbeing and determine local priorities in the most equitable, effective and efficient way possible.

“Overall, it will provide the City with the opportunity to become a leader in social sustainability and contribute to building an organisation focused on excellence and transformational improvement.”

From July, the City of Perth has been engaging the community to interact with and contribute to the development of the Social Strategy.

The community can head to Engage Perth to complete the Perth for People survey, which will close on 30 September 2019.

Plans are underway to launch the City of Perth’s Social Strategy in mid-2020.
