NSW Police adopt smart, cloud-based crime fighting

The NSW Police Force has adopted new cloud-based technology as part of a new technology transformation that will make it faster, simpler and safer for officers to respond to emergencies and investigate crimes.

Following an extensive due diligence process, NSW Police Force Commissioner, Mick Fuller, signed a partnership with US-based public safety software provider Mark43 to roll out new crime fighting technology designed by the company.

The cloud-based program, known as the Integrated Policing Operating System (IPOS), will replace the Force’s 27-year-old central database, which is used for everyday operations including Triple Zero callouts, arrests and charges, criminal investigations and forensic analysis.

Deputy Commissioner Corporate Services, Mal Lanyon, said the program will transform policing across the state.

“IPOS will simplify processes and introduce technology that is integrated, easy to use and fast.

“These unparalleled efficiencies will save administrative time for frontline officers, allowing them to spend more time policing,” Deputy Commissioner Lanyon said.

As part of IPOS, every frontline officer will be equipped with new MobiPols (mobile devices) that will provide them with information and intelligence anywhere and anytime, making it safer for police going into hostile scenarios and giving them the ability to process evidence in real-time.

The data will be held at the highest level of security in Australia and only NSW Police Force staff will be able to access the information.

“Modernisation of core technology is critical for the NSW Police Force to improve operational flexibility, reduce the risk of outdated legacy systems and respond to challenges of the modern policing environment,” Deputy Commissioner Lanyon said.

“IPOS will deliver the systems and capabilities to reinforce the NSW Police Force as a world leading policing agency, enabling us to deliver on our mission to create a safer NSW.”
