The Local Government Association of NSW has invited communities across New South Wales to showcase their tourism strengths and local pride.

Nominations remain open for the NSW Top Tourism Town Awards and the NSW Top Tour Guide Awards, providing councils and tourism groups with an opportunity to highlight their town’s unique appeal and visitor experiences.

The awards recognise destinations and tour guides that bring places to life – from coastal and country centres to mountain, river and outback communities.

Nomination deadlines

  • Top Tourism Town: 26 February
  • Top Tour Guide: 10 April

Local councils, accredited visitor information centres and local tourism associations are invited to nominate their town in one of three categories:

  • Top Tourism Town: Population 5,000+
  • Small Tourism Town: Population 1,500-5,000
  • Tiny Tourism Town: Population below 1,500

Population eligibility can be checked using data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The awards program has delivered lasting benefits for past winners, including the coastal town of Kiama.

Megan Lopes, Tourism and Marketing Lead at Kiama Municipal Council, said winning Gold two years in a row had lifted the entire community.

“It’s helped shine an even brighter light on Kiama as a must-visit coastal escape, while giving our operators and locals a real sense of pride,” Lopes said.

“For us, the awards aren’t just recognition, they reassure us that the path we’re on is working, and that the energy and heart we’re putting into our destination is genuinely resonating.

“It’s momentum we’re excited to keep building on.”
