Nine Victorian Councils have been named as finalists in the 2023 Premier’s Sustainability Awards.
2023 marks the 21st anniversary of the Premier’s Sustainability Awards, Victoria’s most prestigious annual sustainability awards program.
The six categories are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Community Champion Award celebrates individuals and small organisations, and the Industry Leader Award recognises medium and large organisations driving a sustainable future.
The council finalists are:
- Darebin City Council for its Darebin Loves Bikes program
- Yarra City Council and Merri-bek City Council for their Unlocking Sustainable Strata program
- Yarra Ranges Council, Knox City Council and Maroondah City Council for their My Energy and Water Saver Kits
- Brimbank City Council for upgrading its Brimbank Aquatic and Wellness Centre to be 100 per cent renewable energy powered and emit zero greenhouse gases
- Hobsons Bay City Council for its My Smart Garden program.
- Hume City Council for its Hume Enviro Champions program
Sustainability Victoria’s Interim CEO, Matt Genever, said that he was inspired by the work being done to create a more sustainable future for Victorians.
“These organisations are leading the way in sustainability and I look forward to recognising their achievements at the awards ceremony in November,” Mr Genever said.
The judging panel included a broad range of independent environmental experts selected for their sustainability and industry expertise.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 23 November in Melbourne.
