Councils are encouraged to have their say at the 32nd National General Assembly (NGA) of Local Government, to be held in Canberra from 23–25 June 2026.
The NGA is the peak national forum for local government, bringing councils together to debate key issues and shape a shared advocacy agenda with the Federal Government. Submitting a motion helps ensure local priorities and challenges are represented at a national level.
All motions must be submitted via the online portal by Friday 27 February 2026.
Motions should address matters of national significance to local government, including financial sustainability, infrastructure and roads, housing and planning, climate resilience, workforce challenges, and community wellbeing.
This is an important opportunity for all councils to influence national policy positions and contribute to the collective voice of local government ahead of the NGA.
For motion guidelines and submission details, visit the NGA motions page.
