The Queensland Government has partnered with the private sector in the delivery of an additional 396 new homes to ease the housing crisis.
The 396-apartment complex in Newstead is the first of three Build to Rent pilot projects that will provide more than 1,200 new homes solely for Queensland renters.
LIV Anura, built and managed by Mirvac, will include up to 99 affordable apartments at a reduced rate for eligible renters working within ten kilometres of the site.
The new build features studios, one and two-bedroom apartments across two buildings, 3,000 square metres of indoor and outdoor shared resident spaces and more than 1,000 square metres of boutique retail.
Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Home Ownership, David Janetzki, said that the development was another step to ease the housing crisis.
“Every Queenslander deserves a roof over their head, and we’re firmly focused on unlocking new land for housing, boosting home ownership and easing pressure for renters,” Janetzki said.
“The State Government recognises the majority of residential housing is delivered by the private sector, and projects like this are a fantastic example of new ways we can partner to deliver high-quality new supply for Queensland.”
The Build to Rent Pilot Program is part of the State Government’s record $8.1 billion investment in housing over the next five years, and planned delivery of one million new homes by 2044.
Queensland Minister for Housing, Sam O’Connor, said that the State Government’s comprehensive housing plan would increase supply and help Queenslanders trying desperately to achieve the dream of owning their own home.
“Projects like LIV Anura provide more homes for hard-working Queenslander renters,” O’Connor said.
Mirvac CEO and Managing Director, Campbell Hanan, said that his group was proud to deliver its first build-to-rent project in Queensland alongside the State Government and investors Mitsubishi Estate Asia and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
“Delivering a diverse range of housing supply that meets growing demand is key to improving access to housing for Queenslanders,” Hanan said.
“LIV Anura is a great example of what can be achieved when industry and government work together.”
