A major levee restoration project has been awarded to strengthen critical flood protection infrastructure in Goondiwindi.
Goondiwindi Regional Council has appointed Georgiou, in joint venture with Brady Marine, to deliver the Goondiwindi Levee Restoration Project, its largest-ever capital works program.
The project will strengthen around 1.5 kilometres of levee infrastructure that has protected the community for nearly 70 years. The levee plays a key role in flood mitigation, safeguarding homes, businesses and essential services, with the restoration works set to extend its lifespan and reliability.
Jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), the project builds on ongoing efforts to restore and strengthen critical infrastructure following major flood and extreme weather events.
Georgiou General Manager Queensland, Sean Donald, said the company would bring extensive experience in delivering DRFA-funded projects.
“Georgiou has a strong track record delivering DRFA-funded recovery programs across Queensland, and we’ll bring that same commitment to safety, quality, collaboration and community engagement throughout delivery,” Donald said.
Georgiou and Brady Marine have previously worked together on complex marine projects, with the partnership focused on delivering resilient infrastructure outcomes.
The project is expected to enhance long-term flood protection for Goondiwindi, supporting community safety and regional resilience.
