The Queensland Government has announced that it will fully fund the upgrade of the Back Creek bridge at Cooyar, in the Toowoomba region.

Toowoomba Region Mayor, Geoff McDonald, welcomed the announcement by Queensland Treasurer, David Janetzki.

“This is great news for all road users along the New England Highway with Back Creek Bridge set for an upgrade thanks to today’s announcement,” Mayor McDonald said.

“This one-lane bridge has been the scene of a number of recent accidents and near misses and I’m pleased the State Government has now committed funding for its upgrade.

“As a council, we wrote to Queensland Transport Minister, Brent Mickelberg, following a council resolution earlier this year requesting the government to prioritise the upgrade of this important New England Highway bridge, and the state will now deliver.”

Speaking at the Bush Summit at The Good Shed in Toowoomba, Treasurer Janetzki said that the bridge upgrade would be fully funded in December’s State Government mid-year economic and fiscal review.
