Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA) has appointed Victoria MacKirdy as its new Chief Executive Officer, following a national recruitment process.

MacKirdy joins the organisation from City of Victor Harbor, where she has served as CEO since 2018, bringing nearly 30 years’ experience across regional and metropolitan councils, as well as six years in the private sector.

Her experience includes roles as President of Local Government Professionals Australia and Local Government Professionals South Australia, and board positions with Country Arts South Australia and Regional Development Australia Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.

MacKirdy said the opportunity to represent the sector and support councils across the state drew her to the role.

“I am honoured to be appointed CEO and be given the opportunity to lead the LGA team to support and represent the local government sector,” MacKirdy said.

“LGA plays a unique role in bringing the sector together and delivering valued services, and I look forward to building on this to make a difference for councils right across South Australia.

“I’m grateful for the confidence the LGA Board has placed in me through this appointment.”

LGA South Australia President, Heather Holmes-Ross, said MacKirdy’s experience and leadership made her a strong fit for the role.

“Victoria’s extensive council and private sector knowledge coupled with her strong leadership qualities and credentials made her a standout candidate for the CEO role,” Holmes-Ross said.

“As a Board, we gave careful consideration to the kind of person and skillset we wanted in this position to deliver on LGA’s strategic goals, with a focus on creating new opportunities for sector collaboration and creating value for members.

“Victoria brings a clear commitment to the sector, and we are confident she will build on LGA’s role as an important partner to councils, government and stakeholders.”

MacKirdy will commence in the role on 20 July 2026.
