The Queensland Government has broken ground in Charleville in the delivery of an extension to the Aurora Estate, which is set to create 65 new residential blocks.
The Aurora Estate is in a flood-free area of Charleville in western Queensland, and is expected to help ease housing pressures and attract families, skilled workers and businesses to the region.
Through $13 million in funding from the State Government’s $2 billion Residential Activation Fund, the project will deliver critical enabling infrastructure for the extension of Aurora Estate.
Works include construction of sewerage, telecommunications pit and pipes, sealed roads, kerb and channelling, footpaths, water supply, stormwater drainage and electrical infrastructure.
Stage Two builds on the success of Aurora Estate Stage One and reflects a shared vision of growth and sustainability for western Queensland.
The development will not only deliver new homes in Western Queensland but also create jobs during construction, support local businesses, enliven the community feel of the town and strengthen Charleville’s role as a vibrant hub in western Queensland.
Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the State Government’s landmark $2 billion Residential Activation Fund program was an economic lifeline to many rural and regional communities across Queensland where housing shortage was the key barrier to attract and retain local workers and their families.
“By unlocking land for housing in flood-free areas, the State Government is helping families put down roots, attract skilled workers, and ensure this community thrives for generations to come,” Bleijie said.
“With at least half of the funding invested outside of South East Queensland, projects like this showcase how the Queensland Government is not only supporting the bush but also tackling the housing shortage head-on by creating vibrant, resilient places for more Queenslanders to call home.
“Stage Two of Aurora Estate’s extension will create jobs during construction and deliver long-term benefits for schools, healthcare, and local businesses.
“This shovel-ready development reflects a shared vision of growth, opportunity, and resilience, ensuring that the Murweh Shire remains a welcoming and thriving place for generations to come.”
Murweh Shire Mayor, Shaun ‘Zoro’ Radnedge, said the project was a game-changer for the Murweh Shire.
“To find ourselves on the cusp of commencement of the development of 65 housing blocks in a new estate in a flood-free area here in Charleville is very exciting for our region,” Mayor Radnedge said.
“Through the extension of Aurora Estate in Stage Two, our residents will have an opportunity to invest and build out of the flood-prone area to make our community more resilient.
“This decision by the Queensland Government offers an invaluable housing development future for the Murweh Shire.”
