Economic Development Australia (EDA) has announced that the 2025 National Economic Development Conference (NEDC25) will be held in Newcastle, New South Wales on the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples.
Newcastle, known for its vibrant culture, stunning coastal scenery and rich history, provides the ideal setting for NEDC25, which will focus on demonstrating how to create a liveable, sustainable and inclusive community.
EDA CEO, Jacqueline Brinkman made the announcement that the City of Newcastle won the competitive process to be host sponsor of NEDC25 at last week’s National Economic Development Awards for Excellence in Melbourne.
“As one of the most exciting and creative cities in Australia with a people-centred and place-based approach to economic development, NEDC25 in Newcastle will bring together industry leaders to explore sustainable, innovative and collaborative growth strategies that drive economic prosperity across Australia,” Ms Brinkman said.
City of Newcastle Chief Executive Officer, Jeremy Bath welcomed the announcement.
“Securing the National Economic Development Conference for 2025 is welcome news for our city, with business events proven to be a significant contributor to Newcastle’s visitor economy, boosting the tourism and hospitality sectors.” Mr Bath said.
“This event, which is expected to generate approximately 750 room nights for local hotels and deliver more than $309,750 in economic benefit, will also provide a unique opportunity for delegates to experience and learn about City of Newcastle’s key economic development activities and partnerships through onsite study tours at University of Newcastle and Newcastle Airport as well as utilising some of our exceptional facilities such as City Hall. We are excited to welcome the delegates of the NEDC25 conference in October next year.”
The National Economic Development Conference is Australia’s premier conference for economic development professionals, delivered by Economic Development Australia.
