The Queensland Local Government Grants Commission has been renewed, with the appointment of a new chairperson and three new members.
The state says the appointments were made to help steer the distribution of Financial Assistance Grants across the state’s 77 councils.
Former Southern Downs Mayor Vic Pennisi has been named the Commission’s new chairperson, alongside new members Jane McNamara, Peter Scott and Elvie Sandow.
Each will serve a three-year term beginning in March 2025. They join existing deputy chairperson Joshua Hannan and member Jan Pool.
The Commission, an independent advisory body, plays a key role in ensuring that Commonwealth Financial Assistance Grants are distributed fairly and transparently to Queensland’s local governments.
Minister for Local Government and Water, Ann Leahy, said the appointments reinforce the government’s commitment to supporting councils in delivering essential services and infrastructure.
“Our new members are passionate advocates for regional Queensland and their work helps deliver critical infrastructure and services where they’re needed most,” Leahy said.
Vic Pennisi brings decades of leadership in regional development and infrastructure planning, while Jane McNamara offers experience in economic diversification and community service. Peter Scott’s background combines finance and regional governance, and Elvie Sandow contributes deep expertise in Indigenous education and advocacy.
The appointments coincide with the departure of outgoing chair Paul Bell AM and members Diedre Comerford, Janelle Menzies and Cr Kurt Rehbein, who were thanked for their service.
