Residents are being invited to have their say on plans for a new pedestrian and cycling link along Finlayson’s Creek in Wentworthville.
The $13.9 million project would deliver a one-kilometre shared path featuring dedicated walking and cycling infrastructure, new bridges across Finlayson’s Creek, a boardwalk beneath the rail line near Wentworthville Station, improved lighting and landscaping, and a priority crossing at Wentworth Avenue.
The proposal forms part of a broader project to improve active transport connections in Western Sydney. Stage 2 would link Shannon’s Paddock and Wentworth Avenue, while Stage 3 would extend the route to Lytton Park in the Cumberland local government area.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter, said the project would complete a missing connection between existing shared pathways along the M4 and the Norwest T-Way.
“Finlayson’s Creek is an important waterway in the western part of our Central River City and it’s great to see these paths being built in our suburbs to cater for both pedestrians and cyclists,” Zaiter said.
“This missing piece of the puzzle is being added in the City’s west, opening up options for people walking and cycling along or across the main Western Rail Line in Wentworthville.
“Projects such as this pathway at Finlayson’s Creek are helping our City transform into one of the most liveable in Australia.”
New South Wales Member for Parramatta, Donna Davis, said the project would provide a long-awaited connection while supporting future growth.
“The Finlayson’s Creek pedestrian and cycle paths will deliver a long-awaited connection between the M4 and Norwest T-Way while also ensuring people can more easily visit places along the way,” Davis said.
“This project is not just building bridges and pathways, it’s another step towards connecting unique parts of the Greater Parramatta area together.
“As more people come to live in this area we are making sure that we are improving liveability and amenity along this important waterway.”
The project is jointly funded by the City of Parramatta, the New South Wales Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants program and the Get NSW Active program.
Community consultation is open until 30 June.
