Wyndham City Council has received Federal Government funding as one of three local governments to receive grants supporting the transition to zero emissions vehicles.

The grant supports the installation of 13 electric vehicle (EV) chargers that will be located at Wyndham City’s depot in Hoppers Crossing.

Wyndham is one of three local governments to share in $2.2 million in funds from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s Driving the Nation Fund (ARENA) to assist in the transition to electric vehicles.

Moonee Valley and Brimbank City Councils, also members of the Western Alliance for Greenhouse Action (WAGA) along with Wyndham, will also share in the funds.

Wyndham City Mayor, Mia Shaw, said that the transition from internal combustion engine to electric vehicles will play an important part in Council’s aim to further reduce its carbon footprint.

“Council is committed to transitioning our light vehicle fleet to low or zero emission vehicles by 2035. This ARENA grant will support us to deliver on this commitment as referenced in the Wyndham Electric Vehicle Policy,” Mayor Shaw said.

“The installation of the additional EV chargers is a key step so that we will have the infrastructure in place to support the growth of our electric vehicle fleet.

“At present our fleet makes up a large portion of our greenhouse gas emissions.

“Installing EV chargers means we’re driving towards a cleaner and greener future for our whole community.”
