The Federal Government has partnered with the Goulburn Mulwaree Council to deliver target transport and community infrastructure projects.
As part of its commitment to improve the safety of the region’s roads, the Federal Government has announced $500,000 towards upgrades on a dangerous stretch of Taralga Road near Dallas Tidyman Drive.
Funded through the Road Black Spot Program, the project will include upgrades to signage and line marking, installation of a safety barrier and guideposts, and improvements to shoulder sealing.
This adds to the $9.4 million flowing to Goulburn Mulwaree Council over the next five years under the Roads to Recovery (RTR) program.
This will fund a pipeline of new works, adding to RTR projects already underway – including surface, guardrail and drainage improvements on Windellama Road on Goulburn’s outskirts.
Construction of the new Goulburn SES Unit and Emergency Operations Centre on Crundwell Street is also underway – supported by more than $1.4 million from the Federal Government, $2.1 million from the New South Wales Government, and $725,500 from Goulburn Mulwaree Council.
The shared Emergency Operations Centre, due for completion in late 2024, will support all emergency services to coordinate, communicate and respond to future incidents from a central location – accommodating rescue vehicles, specialist equipment and volunteer training.
Through Phase 4 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program, the Government is delivering more than $1.6 million to Goulburn Mulwaree Council to support high-impact projects.
This includes upgrades to the Marulan Soccer Fields drainage, which will boost the site’s durability and wet-weather participation – along with the resurfacing of the Carr Confoy Park netball courts, supporting increased female participation.
Major road and rail upgrades also continue to progress, as part of the $41.6 million Southern Highlands Overtaking Opportunities project.
Works include new rail crossovers at Werai near Moss Vale, and Joppa Junction near Goulburn – supporting freight trains up to 1,800m in length to be overtaken by faster passenger services.
Under the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program, over five kilometres of road surface improvements are being delivered on Currawang Road, along with the replacement of two narrow, flood-prone causeways with box culverts – improving safety and flood resilience.
Federal Minister for Regional Development and Local Government, Kristy McBain, said that it’s fantastic to see upgrades to road safety and community infrastructure progressing across Goulburn and surrounds, with significant funding increases from the Federal Government supporting a pipeline of future works.
“This is a region that’s fast-growing and it’s important that all levels of government are rowing in the same direction,” Minister McBain said.
“Which is why I’ll continue to work with Goulburn Mulwaree Council to support the delivery of priority projects that the local community wants to get off the ground.”
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor, Peter Walker, said that Goulburn Mulwaree Council has a large footprint to deliver services to, which is why it is committed to partnering with the Federal Government to get the best outcomes for its community, and to advocate for projects that matter to locals.
“In particular, we welcome the Roads to Recovery funding boost from the Federal Government, which will ensure Goulburn Mulwaree Council can continue to progress targeted safety improvements on our local road network – the roads that our community drive every day.”
