Key venues, accommodation and transport projects for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are set to benefit from streamlined planning and delivery pathways under proposed legislative amendments.
The Queensland Government has announced changes to existing Games infrastructure laws to formally add priority venues and transport projects to a fast-tracked approvals framework.
The amendments are designed to support faster delivery, improve planning certainty and help ensure major projects are completed on time and within budget.
Under the changes, tenure at Victoria Park will be transferred to the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA), allowing work to commence on the proposed Brisbane Stadium.
The Brisbane Athletes Village will also be formally listed as a legislated project, supporting plans for long-term housing outcomes beyond the Games.
The Gabba Arena, part of the broader Gabba Entertainment and Housing Precinct, will be added to the works schedule, accelerating delivery of a new indoor arena in inner Brisbane.
Games-related transport infrastructure across Queensland will also be included, supporting the movement of athletes, officials and spectators and contributing to long-term transport improvements for local communities.
The Queensland Government said the changes would provide greater certainty for industry and residents, safeguard construction timelines and strengthen legacy outcomes in housing, employment and economic development.
Deputy Premier and Queensland Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the amendments would support coordinated delivery.
“Adding key projects to the Act cuts through approval delays and provides confidence that essential infrastructure will be delivered on time,” Bleijie said.
“This is about delivering long-term benefits, including improved transport connections, increased housing supply, renewed precincts and job opportunities for Queenslanders beyond 2032.”
The reforms form part of the state’s broader 2032 Delivery Plan, which aims to coordinate planning, land assembly and construction activities across multiple agencies.
The amendments follow consultation with industry, federal and local governments, Games delivery partners and community representatives.
