Applications are now open for the 81st AR Bluett Memorial Awards, recognising excellence and innovation in local government across New South Wales.
Presented annually since 1945, the AR Bluett Memorial Award is regarded as one of the highest honours in NSW local government, celebrating councils that demonstrate outstanding leadership, governance and service delivery.
Councils will be assessed on the progress and achievements made during the 2025-26 financial year, with applications judged relative to each council’s size and available resources.
Projects and initiatives that commenced in previous years may also be included, provided councils outline their current status and achievements.
This year, the AR Bluett Memorial Trustees have reduced the application fee for councils with populations under 10,000.
The winners of the 81st AR Bluett Memorial Awards will be announced at the LGNSW Annual Conference in Wollongong from 22-24 November 2026.
Winning councils in both the metropolitan/major regional and rural categories will receive a commemorative bronze plaque, along with a $5,000 Stephen Ward Scholarship to support the professional development of one council employee.
Entries close on 31 July 2026.
