The Local Government Association of South Australia (LGA) will be hosting an information session with the Department for Agriculture, Water and the Environment (DAWE) to discuss the latest electronic stewardship Discussion Paper.

In the last ten years, the rate of e-waste generated each year by Australians has more than doubled.

E-stewardship means improving the environmentally sound management of electrical and electronic products throughout their life.

In December 2021, DAWE released the Stewardship for Consumer and Other Electrical and Electronic Products Discussion Paper.

This Discussion Paper has been informed by the Australian Government’s Electronic Stewardship taskforce and stakeholder roundtables held in September and October 2021.

The Discussion Paper is divided into three sections:

  1. Introduction – overview of the context, evidence and key concepts
  2. Product Categories – data and issues divided into product categories
  3. Key issues – issues identified through early consultation that cut across product categories

The LGA and DAWE are holding the information session to explore the Discussion Paper. Local government staff can register here to attend the information session.

The session will provide councils with an opportunity to hear presentations on the Discussion Paper from key DAWE representatives. Council staff will also have an opportunity to discuss and explore key matters from the Discussion Paper that are relevant to local government.
