Cumberland City Council has completed a $32.8 million infrastructure upgrade.
The new works are designed to support population growth, economic development and liveability.
The five-year project focused on modernising roads, stormwater drainage, and essential services in the heart of Cumberland’s urban centre. Works included major upgrades to Merrylands Road, Addlestone Road, CBD Main Lane, Dressler Court, McLeod Road and Neil Street.
Mayor Ola Hamed said the investment has “unlocked new opportunities” by boosting connectivity, reducing flood risks and improving safety for residents and businesses.
“By enhancing roads, facilities and essential services, we are not only supporting new housing developments but also improving the quality of life for current and future residents,” Cr Hamed said.
Central to the works was the installation of a significant new stormwater management system, aimed at improving resilience to extreme weather events. Upgrades to sewer and water supply networks were also delivered, improving reliability and service efficiency across the precinct.
Electrical infrastructure was modernised with new power cabling, an upgraded substation, and enhanced street lighting and landscaping, helping to future-proof the area for further growth.
