COVID staff shortages delay waste collection for Perth suburbs

The City of Canning in Western Australia has experienced waste collection delays brought about by COVID related contractor shortages and extreme weather conditions.

Council advises the bulk waste collection is still underway despite delays, with zone three collections in Cannington starting on 2 February and zone two, covering Queens Park, continuing.

Multiple heat waves in January contributed to a one-week delay along with large junk piles requiring extra load time.

City of Canning Mayor, Patrick Hall, said while delays were due to a variety of causes, the most prominent issue was COVID related contractor shortages.

“In addition to contractor issues, weather conditions have made the process a bit more arduous than normal and I thank residents for being understanding about the delay,” Mayor Hall said.

“If residents need any clarification about verge collections, the Waste Guide has some useful tips for residents to follow.”

The council also reminds residents to only place  waste on the verge two days prior to collection.

The green waste collection has remained on schedule.
