The City of Moreton Bay will receive $250,000 to support new CCTV infrastructure and licence plate recognition technology aimed at improving community safety.
The funding will be used to deliver upgrades to existing surveillance systems and introduce additional crime prevention measures to support council-led safety initiatives.
The Queensland Government said the investment would assist councils in responding to local safety priorities and strengthening community confidence.
Queensland Minister for Local Government and Water, Ann Leahy, said the funding reflected a commitment to supporting councils in addressing safety concerns.
“This project will significantly enhance community safety for Queenslanders,” Leahy said.
“We are investing in our Moreton Bay community to help ensure residents feel safe in their neighbourhoods.”
City of Moreton Bay Mayor, Peter Flannery, welcomed the funding and said expanded CCTV coverage would support crime prevention efforts.
“Every person in our community deserves to feel safe, and by expanding our CCTV network, we’re taking a proactive approach to preventing and responding to crime,” Mayor Flannery said.
Works on the safety upgrades are expected to commence shortly, with projects scheduled for completion by the end of June.
