Following the NSW Government’s planning approval of the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project, Mayor of Liverpool, Wendy Waller, is calling for public transport network improvements in the Liverpool region.
Mayor Waller said while Liverpool City Council recognises this milestone, the metro line does not provide all of the required public transport connectivity to the Liverpool region.
Liverpool Council has previously called on the NSW Government to extend the south-west rail line from Leppington to the Western Sydney International Airport (WSIA) and for the delivery of the Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit Corridor (FAST) project.
On completion, these two projects are expected to significantly improve public transport connectivity to the Aerotropolis and WSIA.
Mayor Waller said Council continues to support the extension of the south-west rail line, as it is a cost-effective option of linking Liverpool to the WSIA on the existing public transport network.
“Further consideration needs to be given to this extension via Leppington which in doing so, will also connect thousands of residents with more employment opportunities.
“Council’s vision for the Fifteenth Avenue Smart Transit (FAST) Corridor will assist in providing mass transit between Liverpool City Centre and the WSIA, alleviate pressure on our congested road network, and improve connection to the new airport.
“I will continue to advocate for better public transport to meet the demands and growth of Liverpool’s CBD and for South West Sydney,” Mayor Waller said.
