The Queensland Government and Somerset Regional Council are accelerating works to unlock up to 2000 homes through Round One of the $2 billion Residential Activation Fund (RAF).

The Fernvale South Productivity Link will deliver key infrastructure that will accelerate land availability, support new neighbourhoods, and improve access for the rapidly expanding Fernvale community.

The Link will provide direct access to the broader Fernvale growth area, paving the way for construction crews to roll in, and as well as providing the vital road infrastructure for when families move in.

The upgrades include improvements to key roads and intersections between the Brisbane Valley Highway and Old Fernvale Road, as well as sealing and upgrading Muckerts Lane and McCulkins Lane.

The $2 billion Residential Activation Fund is a major component of the State Government’s $8.1 billion Securing Our Housing Foundations Plan, ensuring essential infrastructure is in place so communities are ready for growth.

At least half of the $2 billion in funding is dedicated to fast-tracking land supply in regional Queensland.

Queensland Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jarrod Bleijie, said the upgrades demonstrated the State Government’s commitment to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders and prepare regional Queensland for future growth.

“Every Queenslander deserves a place to call home,” Bleijie said

“Today, we’re delivering homes in the Somerset Region sooner by literally paving the way for this community to grow.”

Somerset Regional Council Mayor, Jason Wendt, said the project will deliver long-lasting benefits for the community.

“This transformative project unlocks land supply sooner, strengthens key local connections and delivers more reliable access through Fernvale,” Wendt said.

“Completing these key upgrades will make a significant difference and ensure our local road network is ready to support new homes and future growth.”
