The City of Parramatta’s internationally acclaimed fitness, wellness and relaxation hub, Parramatta Aquatic Centre (PAC), has added another trophy to its cabinet.

The PAC has been awarded the 2025 International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS) Architecture Prize.

The award is presented to the centres who the IOC and IAKS consider to be the most sustainable, accessible and innovative sports and leisure facilities from across the globe, with nine out of a total of 69 entrants named a winner this year.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter, said it’s an extraordinary achievement for the city.

“PAC has already punched above its weight as a facility and now it’s even getting noticed by two of the world’s biggest sporting organisations – this one is a big win for the city,” Zaiter said.

“We are the only winner from Australia this year and as the home of festivals, sports and entertainment we pride ourselves on world class facilities – it doesn’t get much bigger than this.

“Our emerging global city has just experienced its biggest Lanes festival with 335,000 people over four days and this is just the icing on the cake.”

The 2025 IOC IAKS Architecture Prize for sustainable, accessible and innovative sports and leisure facilities was awarded at a special festive gala at the 29th IAKS Congress at Cologne, Germany.

Other winners include aquatic and sports facilities from Canada, Germany, Austria, Hungary, New Zealand and Liechtenstein.

“I’d also like to thank designers and architects Grimshaw, Andrew Burges Architects and McGregor Coxall for helping to make this dream into a reality,” Zaiter said.
