Parramatta residents are being invited to help shape a proposed youth-focused park upgrade, with plans underway to transform Rangihou Reserve into a dedicated space for young people.
The City of Parramatta has earmarked the site, located on the edge of the CBD, for the Active Youth are Healthy Youth project. Proposed features include an amphitheatre, adventure play space, multi-purpose half courts and social areas designed to support recreation and connection.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor, Martin Zaiter, said the project responds to a recognised gap in facilities for teenagers and young adults.
“Young people are our future, so we need to provide age-appropriate facilities that are safe, welcoming and designed for how young people want to spend time with their friends,” Zaiter said.
“Council’s Community Infrastructure Strategy identified a gap in facilities for teenagers and young adults in our community, and this is one step to address that.”
Consultation undertaken in 2025 found young people were seeking a mix of social, performance and active spaces, including obstacle-style elements. The proposed upgrade aims to reflect this feedback while complementing existing recreational facilities across the local government area.
Member for Parramatta, Donna Davis, said the project would provide a safe and accessible space for young people.
“It’s great to be investing in safe enjoyable places for children and youth of all ages to have fun, chill and meet up with friends,” Davis said.
The $1.5 million project is funded through the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program in partnership with City of Parramatta Council.
