The City of Darwin has won the Australian Achievement of the Year and the Smart City Achievement of the Year for its myDarwin Support Local Program at the 2021 Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) Technology National Awards for Excellence.

The myDarwin initiative was developed by the Council’s Innovation Team to assist economic recovery following the COVID-19 lockdowns.

“Winning these awards is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Council Officers who wanted to do something to help local businesses recover from the COVID-19 lockdown,” Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis, said.

“The myDarwin scheme was extremely successful and had a positive impact on local businesses, customers and the economy. There were seven rounds of funding that provided in excess of $6 million of economic stimulus for our small businesses.

“Congratulations to the Innovation team. The award is well-deserved.”

The team also received a ‘highly commended’ in the Digital Leadership of the Year category.

The MAV Technology National Awards for Excellence recognise councils from across Australia for their outstanding performance in delivering innovative information and communications technology (ICT) solutions.
