Local Government NSW has opened the call for presentations for its 2026 Water Management Conference, focusing on water policy, utility management and emerging challenges for councils.
The annual LGNSW Water Management Conference will return to Ballina on 2-4 September.
LGNSW is partnering with Ballina Shire Council, with support from Rous County Council, to co-host the conference.
The LGNSW Water Management Conference provides local government professionals with up-to-date information on water policy and regulation, water utility management, water security and service delivery from a council perspective.
The conference is a major annual event for the local government water sector, offering a dedicated forum to explore policy initiatives and emerging trends, learn about technical innovations and share best practice in water governance and management.
Presentation proposals must be submitted electronically using the online Presentation Proposal Form, with proponents encouraged to review the submission guidelines before lodging an application.
The first round of presentation proposals closes on 20 March 2026.
LGNSW is seeking presentations that are relevant, topical and engaging. Areas of focus may include:
- Drought resilience initiatives
- Water quality and supply for rural, remote and Aboriginal communities
- Energy efficiency in water utilities
- PFAS and other contaminants
- Local water utility funding models
- Cybersecurity in local water utilities
- Regional water strategies
- Town water risk reduction
- Workforce planning for the future water sector
- Implementation of regulatory reform
- Water as an economic driver for regional communities
The Water Conference Committee will select presentations that align with the conference focus areas to ensure a balanced program for delegates. Where multiple proposals address similar topics, presenters may be invited to participate in panel discussions.
Councils are encouraged to submit relevant case studies for consideration.
