Rockhampton Regional Council has commenced works to improve safety at a known black spot intersection in Berserker.
The upgrades, funded through the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program, are being delivered at the intersection of Dean and Elphinstone Streets.
Infrastructure Councillor, Marika Taylor, said the project would improve road safety for motorists.
“Investing in safer roads is one of Council’s top priorities, and this funding helps us deliver the improvements our community has been calling for,” Taylor said.
“The intersection at Dean and Elphinstone has been flagged as an area needing attention, so it’s great to see it included in this year’s program.”
Taylor said the installation of dedicated right-turn arrow signals on all approaches would be a key feature of the upgrade.
“One of the key improvements will be the installation of dedicated right-turn arrow signals on all approaches, which will significantly enhance safety for motorists and improve overall safety,” she said.
Divisional Councillor, Grant Mathers, said works are expected to be completed by June, subject to weather and ground conditions.
“We’re working to minimise disruption as much as possible and really appreciate the community’s patience during these upgrades,” Mathers said.
“We ask all drivers to follow signage and take extra care when travelling through the area.”
Three projects worth more than $3.5 million were selected for upgrades under the Black Spot Program, including projects at Denham Street Extended in West Rockhampton and Razorback Road at Moongan.
Works at Denham Street Extended were completed in April, while upgrades at Razorback Road are expected to begin in the coming months.
