International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global celebration on March 8 to acknowledge the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, with councils across Australia recognising IWD with various events and awards.
Victoria
Darebin Council’s contemporary, multi-arts festival FUSE is back for 2022, withfestival-goers’ first taste of the festival to be the Molly Hadfield Social Justice Oration and FUSE Opening Party on 11 March at Darebin Arts Centre.
Delivered by Australian presenter, podcaster and author Yumi Stynes, the oration will celebrate International Women’s Day and pay tribute to Molly Hadfield OAM, an inspiring local who worked tirelessly for social justice.
New South Wales
Bathurst Regional Council will be partnering with Central West Women’s Health Centre to present an International Women’s Day dinner event featuring guest speaker Jane Caro and event MC Betty Confetti.
Strathfield Council, together with members of the local and wider community, will celebrate International Women’s Day with a breakfast on Tuesday 8 March 2022.
Council will be joined by speakers Virginia Judge (Former Australian politician and Mayor of Strathfield (2000 to 2003) and Nicole Yade (Director of Client Operations at WAGEC | Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre).
Local Government New South Wales will host an International Women’s Day Lunch event on the 8th of March for an afternoon of networking with industry peers set against the spectacular backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge at Luna Park.
Queensland
Cairns Regional Council will host an International Women’s Day Awards ceremony to recognise women who have demonstrated courage and have made an outstanding contribution to the lives of women and girls in the Cairns Regional Council area.
Northern Territory
Darwin Council is hosting a satellite event at Darwin City Library for 2022’s All About Women, which features a line-up of incredible international and Australian thinkers interrogating a range of topics impacting the lives of women including Rosie Batty, Grace Tame, Laura Tingle and more.
