A new 92-unit social and affordable housing complex has been completed in Chermside, providing secure housing for Queenslanders experiencing or at risk of homelessness, as well as essential workers seeking affordable rentals.
The development includes a mix of social and affordable homes designed to support long-term, stable living for residents.
The apartments have been designed with accessibility in mind, featuring wider hallways, step-free access, safer bathrooms and flexible layouts to support older residents, people with mobility needs and those looking to age in place.
Residents will also have access to communal spaces and on-site tenancy support services aimed at helping them maintain stable tenancies and build long-term independence.
The project was delivered in partnership with community housing provider Brisbane Housing Company (BHC) and consortium partner QIC Limited, with financing from Housing Australia and Australian Retirement Trust.
Queensland Minister for Housing and Public Works, Sam O’Connor, said the Chermside development demonstrated the importance of partnerships in delivering new housing supply.
“These homes will provide more Queenslanders with a safe and secure place to live, while helping to meet growing demand for social and affordable housing,” O’Connor said.
“Our partnerships with community housing providers like BHC are helping deliver homes more quickly, with support services in place to help residents build stable futures.”
BHC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Jamie Muchall, said the project would make a meaningful difference for people in need of secure housing.
“Developments like this provide people with the security and stability they need to rebuild their lives,” Muchall said.
