The Northern Territory Government’s Local Government Immediate Priority Grants (IPG) will deliver around $4 million to Northern Territory councils, funding key strategic infrastructure projects and supporting community development.

The grants also fund plants and equipment, repairs and maintenance, road upgrades, and support animal management projects.

Northern Territory Minister for Local Government, Chansey Paech, said, “The scope for local government councils to deliver essential infrastructure and support animal management across the territory will be boosted by these grants.

“Regional and remote councils with lower rate bases will benefit the most from these grants.

“By increasing the capacity and sustainability of local governing bodies, we are extending opportunities for job creation which is a priority for the Territory Labor Government.”

New plants and equipment is bound for Minjilang, Palumpa, Peppimenarti, and the Central Desert Regional Council; abandoned vehicles will be removed in Wadeye; and staff housing improvements will be made in Bulman, Galiwinku, Milingimbi and Ramingining.

Grants provided to the City of Darwin and the Barkly Regional Council will be used for animal management programs, and several councils will now be able to carry out upgrades to roads and other infrastructure, as well as recreational and sporting facilities.

The annual grants round offers councils the opportunity to:
