Hume City Council is set to receive $3 million in funding as part of the Victorian Government’s Building Blocks Program, which will support the delivery of the Kalkallo North Community Centre.
Hume City Council Mayor, Councillor Carly Moore, thanked the Victorian Government for supporting early years education and ensuring investment in resources and facilities to support local families and children.
“This centre will support the continued roll-out of three-year-old kinder in Hume giving children an extra year of learning, playing and making friends locally,” Mayor Moore said.
Works are underway and it is anticipated Kalkallo North Community Centre, located on the corner of Dwyer Street and Koeks Vista, will be open to the community in mid-2023.
The new Kalkallo North Community Centre will include:
- Three kindergarten rooms, creating 198 kindergarten places for both three and four-year-olds
- Four Maternal and Child Health and associated waiting room
- Visiting consulting suites for specialised services
- A variety of large and small multipurpose activity rooms to support a wide range of early years and community activities (including playgroups, new parent groups, enhanced playgroups, planned activity groups, training and education, community meeting and arts and cultural activities)
This is the second round of funding Council has received for this project, following a $2 million injection from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
