The first of 18 submissions for road repairs in the Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) region have been approved by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, aiming to repair damage caused by extreme weather.
The works are jointly funded by the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor, said, “With the total recovery bill expected to be more than $100 million, this first approval of just over $17 million towards the Toowoomba Region flood recovery works is a welcome announcement.
“The project is now switching from an assessment phase to a construction phase which will see the delivery of recovery works completed by both Council staff and external contractors.”
Cr Taylor said the process for securing suitable contractors is already underway.
“The community can expect to see a large amount of flood repairs completed over the next 18 months, and we ask for patience from road users as our staff and contractors take on this mammoth task.”
In August 2022, Council fast-tracked $6 million of priority flood reconstruction works, which has ensured a strong start to the flood recovery program, which is expected to be completed by mid-2024.
