The New South Wales Government’s Places to Swim Grant Program will contribute $150,000 to accessibility and sustainability upgrades at the council-managed Northbridge Baths in Willoughby City.

The grant funding will make the Northbridge Baths more attractive to swimmers including young families and elderly residents.

Upgrades include replacing the rubber tiles on the perimeter boardwalk with soft fall, replacing the concrete stairs into the baths and further works including internal painting and repairs to the main concrete concourse.

The contribution complements Willoughby City Council’s investment of $205,000 for maintenance works on the amenity pavilion and surrounding areas.

Willoughby City Mayor, Cr Tanya Taylor, said the grant funding would deliver a much-needed boost to the Northbridge Baths.

“This funding, combined with Council’s investment, means we can create a more inviting recreational facility at Northbridge,” Mayor Taylor said.

“The upgrades will also make the Northbridge Baths a more sustainable facility with new street furniture and shade sail ground cover, both made with recyclable materials, to be rolled out.

“The stairs connecting the Northbridge Baths to the carpark will also be upgraded and a new energy efficient smart BBQ will be available for public use free of charge.”
